EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR and FUND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Position Description

 

JOB SUMMARY:
Working closely with the Board and especially the Fund Development Committee, this position is responsible for all fund development, including marketing for funds.  In addition to donor relations, grant writing and acquisition, endowment development, and the structure and supervision of the donor database, this position has responsibility for public and media relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administration
    • Supervise staff to assure use of donor database for gift tracking, and to create retrievals for mailings, listings, and reports
    • Supervise staff in processing all donations, donor acknowledgements and other correspondence
    • Supervise the planning and execution of all Foundation events
    • Supervise all written materials generated for the Foundation appeals
    • Manage the Foundation Ambassadors Council
    • Participate in the development and management of the Foundation budget
    • Supervise employees and coordinate numerous volunteers
    • Secure and disseminate grant applications and grand progress reports to appropriate personnel and committees
  • Fund Development
    • Develop and implement annual plan for balanced fund development activities and donor development
    • Assume responsibility for procuring major private and corporate gifts, planned gifts, capital campaign gifts, grants and workplace giving campaigns, direct mail campaigns, and endowments
    • Supervise all grant related materials generated for the Foundation
    • Train volunteers and Board Members in gift solicitation and speaking engagements. Create content for training. Be responsible for arranging speaking engagements
  • Communications/Public Relations
    • Develop new ideas for major private and corporate solicitation campaigns
    • Supervise all written materials generated for the Foundation (grants, appeals, news articles, brochures)
    • Oversee the design and publication of all brochures, newsletters, and printed materials for the Foundation and the agency
    • Oversee website content and check for current, correct information
    • Develop and cultivate media contacts to promote the work of the Foundation to the community
    • Represent the Foundation at events and speaking engagements in the community
  • Board Relations
    • Collaborate and coordinate with Board Members and Committees to assure organizational needs are met.  Ascertain appropriate level of communication occurs
    • Attend all Foundation Board Meetings. Attend committee meetings as appropriate

 


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Works independently with little supervision
  • Education: BA or BS required
  • Experience: 10+ years of fund development experience in a non-profit agency of similar size is desirable. 
  • Computer skills: Must be able to use Microsoft Office especially Word and Excel as well as e-mail and Internet tools. Experience in fundraising information systems (Foundation currently uses RaisersEdge).
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals and articles for periodicals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to speak Spanish desirable.

    • Requires the ability to sit up to 3-6 hours per day with intermittent occasional walking and standing.
    • Requires the ability to drive up to 6-10 hours per day
    • Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 10 pounds to a height of up to 6 feet; up to 25 pounds to a height of 4 feet
    • Occasionally may be required to carry items up to 25 pounds for distances up to 75 feet
    • Occasional travel
